We put a fresh edge on all the beds. We do not use an mechanical edger: they produces a shallow edge, which quickly breaks down after a few rain storms. We edge with a pick shovel; it produces a deeper edge, which looks much more pleasing. A deeper edge also contains mulch better, and holds up under rough weather conditions.

We always provide a straight line or the proper curve to the bed.
